Understanding the term
In chiropractic settings, “subluxation” may be used to describe a joint or spinal segment that is not moving as expected or is associated with mechanical dysfunction. The term is used differently across healthcare professions and does not by itself establish the cause of symptoms or disease.
Evaluation guides recommendations
Dr. Stacey considers a patient’s history, movement, examination findings, symptoms, and goals before recommending care. When an adjustment is appropriate, the technique and force are selected for the individual. Some adjustments create a popping sound as gas moves within a joint; sound is not required for an adjustment to be effective.
Symptoms such as significant trauma, progressive weakness, loss of coordination, fever, unexplained weight loss, or new bowel or bladder changes may require medical evaluation or referral.
