Patient Rights

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance generally have the right to an estimate of expected charges before scheduled care.

Requesting an estimate

Ask the office for a written Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service, or after scheduling. The estimate explains the expected charges for the care reasonably anticipated at that time. It is not a contract and may change if the recommended services change.

If a bill is substantially higher

If a bill from a provider is at least $400 more than that provider’s Good Faith Estimate, an uninsured or self-pay patient may be eligible for the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Keep a copy or photograph of the estimate and bill.
